Kalderos also earned Built In Chicago’s recognition on two additional lists: Chicago Best Small Companies to Work For and Chicago Best Paying Companies.
It feels great to work for a great company, which makes Kalderos’ recognition by Built In Chicago as one of the Best Places to Work, Best Small Companies to Work for and Best Paying Companies so rewarding for the Kalderos team.
“From our founding, we have focused on building a culture that recognizes that our success comes from empowering each team member to have maximum impact,” says James Schuyler, head of the people team. “Being recognized as a great place to work by Built In is an affirmation that our people team has made significant contributions to move our organization closer to that ideal.”
Built In's lists of Best Places to Work and Best Small Companies to Work For are created algorithmically based on compensation data and employer benefits. The rank is determined by combining a company's score in each category. The Best Paying Companies list is based on compensation data, and determined by calculating the median percentile of all salaries entered for a company.
In 2021, the criteria for Best Places to Work also included attributes like remote opportunities and programs for diversity, equity and inclusion.
“These companies raise the bar for cultural excellence and the ability to adapt to meet changing needs of employees," says Sheridan Orr, chief marketing officer, Built In. “The 2021 winners show a commitment not just to creating meaningful cultures but to delivering talent needs as they change in a dynamic landscape. We’re thrilled to extend our congratulations to the winners.”
For Kalderos, building a company that’s considered one of Chicago’s Best Places to Work began with a vision from the top. “For our leadership, a lot of whom came from larger companies, work-life balance was a priority as they built out the team,” says Eric Coleman, talent acquisition specialist at Kalderos.
Kalderos’ leadership and people teams were also deliberate about building benefits that work for employees, including a celebration stipend, an education stipend and, with the onset of the pandemic, a work-from-home stipend.
However, while benefits are certainly important for supporting employees, there is more that goes into making a company a great place to work.
We put a lot of emphasis into building out our culture, since it’s your team, your culture and your environment that really makes you stay. We want to make sure we focus on the culture we develop and architect what we want it to be."

This commitment to culture-building has paid off, as the company has scaled rapidly over the past two years: quadrupling in 2019 and nearly doubling again in 2020, despite the shift to fully remote work amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the team succeeded in raising Kalderos’ $28 million Series B round, led by Bain Capital Ventures, while also launching new and updated projects such as the first-to-market 340B rebate solution, 340B Pay. And, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot also recognized Kalderos at the ThinkChicago Chicago Ideas 2020 event, highlighting Kalderos’ commitment to growing and supporting the Chicago and Milwaukee tech communities.
Building a collaborative, empowered culture remains a top priority as Kalderos is expected to continue a growth-focused hiring trajectory in 2021. Kalderos is currently recruiting top talent for more than a dozen open roles.
